Bake in 90: Pies and tarts

Who says you can’t rustle up a beautiful pie for dinner? After-work baking is the best way to spend an evening and this fun cooking class will help you master simple pastry techniques that fit into your busy week. You’ll end up with a delicious savoury pie perfect for family suppers and a sweet tart to finish off.

What to expect

No time to bake? Think again. With our speedy Bake nights you can master a specific skill or bake in no time. In each short evening class, we’ll get you hands-on and baking as quickly as possible, watching and following our chef teachers as they guide you through core techniques and recipes.

Our chefs will help you find ways of cooking more with pastry during this short evening class. For a savoury pie, this might be a hearty pithivier – even if you’re using ready-made pastry you can learn simple tricks to make it look stunning and taste delicious. When it comes to sweet tarts, you’ll learn how easy it is to make your own shortcrust pastry and bake quick seasonal tarts for a treat anytime.

Class details

Class starts: 6.30pm, arrive anytime from 6pm to check in at reception

Class finishes: 8pm, stay to dine with your class or take home the dishes you’ve made

Class size: Maximum 12 guests, some elements may require working in pairs with a classmate, don’t worry if you’ve come alone – it’s a great way to meet new people and have a laugh

Typical recipes and skills (we’ll cook the best available on the day, so we might surprise you!):

  • Easy savoury pie – a chicken or vegetable pithivier (ready to take home and bake)
  • Making shortcrust pastry for a sweet tart with a delicious filling – fruit and frangipane, traditional Bakewell, rich chocolate or custard
